Congratulations to Joe Schmidt, DGS’s October Employee of the Month. He has worked for the Department since June 2009. Joe began his career in the heavy equipment shop, working on pavers and bobcats near Pulaski Highway.  

Before coming to DGS and the City, Joe worked for a utility company in North Carolina for 20 years and built motorcycles in his spare time. Joe was attracted to the City because he always enjoyed working on cars and equipment. He also saw the position with Fleet as an opportunity to better himself. One challenge he overcame was familiarizing himself with new technology and computers.

Joe enjoys repairing things and helping other employees improve themselves in the automotive field. In his free time, Joe does woodworking and rides his motorcycle.

Joe is married; he has two daughters, 13 grandchildren, three great-granddaughters, and one on the way. He is a Baltimore resident.
